Royal Desires: Maharajas’ Unfulfilled Design
The Maharajas were very fond of fine objects, and they frequently requested the palace designer to create a wide range of interesting designs. They wanted a summer castle, an automobile, a steamboat, an airplane, and an expensive private train. But some of these concepts never came to pass. Due to his passion for jewelry, the Maharaja ordered from the finest shops, including Chaumet, Harry Winston, and Van Cleef & Arpels, to create the finest pieces for his wife, Sanyogitabai Holkar. She became well-known for being painted and photographed with beautiful diamond jewelry that several businesses wanted to create for her.
